Information on the Homebuyer Credit is available here (with a snippet below): http://tinyurl.com/d3d72m

Homebuyer Credit Expanded and Extended

The Worker, Homeownership and Business Assistance Act of 2009, signed into law on Nov. 6, 2009, extends and expands the first-time homebuyer credit allowed by previous Acts.

Under the new law, an eligible taxpayer must buy, or enter into a binding contract to buy, a principal residence on or before April 30, 2010 and close on the home by June 30, 2010. For qualifying purchases in 2010, taxpayers have the option of claiming the credit on either their 2009 or 2010 return.

Deck, courtyard, and backyard

Deck 003

The deck, courtyard, and backyard truly extend your living space and are perfect for entertaining.

The deck provides plenty of sunny space for outdoor furniture and potted plants, and also has two outdoor outlets.

Laundry Room

With its beadboard ceiling and wainscoting for charm, and its built-in shelves for efficiency, this sunny room almost makes doing laundry a pleasure.

We had this Metro shelving unit custom built at The Container Store. The kitchen cabinets could easily hold this and more if a normal, not-addicted-to-collecting-vintage-china person lived here.

Bedroom # 3

(Click on the photos to enlarge)

The master is my favorite of the bedrooms, mostly because of the amount of light it receives. With three windows (2 at the front of the house, and one on the side), it is absolutely gorgeous on sunny days.

The walls are painted a soft, neutral yellow (no VOC) which adds to the sunsplashed feel. Like the closets in the other bedrooms, this one is deceptive: much bigger than it looks, and with some handy built-in shelves.

Featuring the hardwood floors and crown molding found throughout the house, the master bedroom has the feel of homey bed-and-breakfast.

Currently my toddler son's bedroom, this was once a restful sitting room... and could be again, if you so desire :)

With crown molding and hardwood floors, this room has the classic features of the rest of the house, PLUS it has two windows-- each on different walls, giving you great light at any time of day. Like the other two bedrooms, this one features a very deep closet with built-in shelves.

Though currently employed as a home office (complete with Cat5 cable for a high-speed internet connection), this room, with a great view of the backyard, would also make a restful bedroom.

The double windows, deep closet with built-in shelves, and hardwood floor make this room cozy and comfortable; details such as the crown molding and custom wall treatment add just the right touches.

The Kitchen

Probably my favorite room in the house, this white kitchen embodies the cottage aesthetic: walls painted a warm shade of white (no VOC), lots of white wooden cabinets, and white appliances make for a clean feeling while the hardwood floors provide a solid foundation.

A comfortably-sized room, the living room easily holds several large pieces of furniture and provides plenty of room for your friends when you get together to watch a movie.

Landscaping

This sunny yellow Cape Cod is surrounded by beautiful landscaping. It features:

*Mature trees which provide energy-efficient shade during the hot summers. These trees have received ongoing maintenance by a certified arborist and are very healthy.

*Raised flower beds crafted of stone were added in 2007. These symmetrical beds perfectly complement the Cape Cod style, in addition to adding beauty and interest to the front yard.

*A path winds from the front door, between the raised beds, and out to the driveway.

*A fragrant rosemary hedge lines the street, crowned by an absolutely gorgeous Lady Banks rose which grows around the mailbox.

*Located in the lower corner of the yard is a labor of love: my husband built me a beautiful rose garden complete with split rail fence, upon which twines a rose bush grown from cuttings taken from my grandmother's house. In addition to such rose varieties as The Fairy, Amber Queen, and Seven Sisters, this flower bed also features Spanish lavender and lamb's ear. I can personally attest that this little garden will provide you with plenty of bouquets.

The House

House in summer

Built in 1949, this charming Cape Cod needed some tender loving care.

*In 2005, we hired companies to remove the asbestos siding AND the vinyl siding, add a moisture barrier, insulation, replace the gutters with new, covered ones (and new downspouts, as well), and crown it all with HardiPlank (which carries a 50-year guarantee).

*We replaced the front door at the same time we had the HardiPlank installed, and it is beautifully finished with dentil molding across the lintel.

*The architectural roof carries a guarantee of 30 years, and is only seven years old.

*A new, energy-efficient air conditioner was installed in 2008, along with new ductwork.

*A new hot water heater was installed in 2009.

*Charming, wrought iron flower boxes complement the classic, multi-paned windows.

*There are beautiful oak floors throughout the house, though the laundry room has more practical linoleum. The bathroom features diamond-patterned, black-and-white porcelain tile.

*The house is elevated from the road, and situated on a generously-sized corner lot.

*A peaceful courtyard sits on the right side of the house, enclosed in the original Sears-Roebuck fence which also encompasses the backyard.

*Also making its home in the backyard, is a garden shed (installed in 2005) perfect for storing tools and gardening supplies.

Forrest Hills Neighborhood

2842 Wiltshire Dr. is located in the community of Forrest Hills, which is nestled between hip downtown Decatur and quaint Avondale Estates. However, because it is located in unincorporated Dekalb County, you avoid the high city taxes. Both communities offer fantastic food and beverage choices, with a wide selection of restaurants, pubs, and bakeries. Boutiques, specialty stores, gyms, yoga studios, and places of worship are also to be found nearby.

Forrest Hills has a voluntary neighborhood association which organizes social events throughout the year, and also arranges for off-duty police officers to check on your house while you're out of town. A vital part of neighborhood communication is the listserv, of which you can be a part whether or not you join the neighborhood association. A post WWII community, Forrest Hills is now home to educators, police officers, health professionals, artists, and a host of other interesting folks.

Forrest Hillians love their pets! Dogs and cats lead the life of Riley, and dogs are often to be found on walks in the company of their human parents and siblings.

Drive through and check out our green spaces, pretty lawns, and friendly neighbors.
